It's a half a double, more long than it is wide. Some context I guess, the house I'm moving into with my family is not the largest. Same goes for whether I should buy in to Wifi 6E now, but since I'm pretty firmly planting my flag with Netgear, that leaves only two options if I were to go with 6E despite having now 6E devices currently, which is the Nighthawk RAXE500 router or the newly announced Orbi RBKE963. I've honestly been conflicted about whether I should buy top of the line equipment that's rated for speeds higher than my plan would offer since those models typically also come with better hardware that might offer benefits such as ensuring Wifi 4/5/6 devices all reach their max speeds(or at least, max as far as Wifi 6 on a gigabit connection is concerned.), more coverage, etc. Moving at the end of the month and honestly want to ditch the rental Eero modem/router combo that every ISP seems to use. Currently in the market to purchase a router and modem. I guess this is the place to ask, correct me if I'm wrong. Strong, fast, and stable internet connection is a must and it needs to support wi-0fi 6 a least and able to supply those speeds to many devices at once for intense gaming and UHD streaming. Unsure whether or not to do standard router or mesh system for an apartment that is less than 22500 square feet. Tl dr Need router and modem recommendations for cable gigabit internet, preferably Netgear. All of those are much better mesh systems then what Google offers. If you don't care about QoS then look at Deco or Orbi. If you want the best performance with tri-band, WiFi 6 and good QoS get the Amplifi Alien. If you want something cheap and reliable with good QoS then get a WiFi 5 Eero (not a WiFi 6 one). If it wasn't for the name no one would care about Google WiFi/Nest at all. In the home mesh space only some Eero and Amplifi models have modern SQM QoS that actually works. To be fair most mesh systems don't have good QoS. For example if you are able to wire both the main and a 2nd node with a 3rd wireless the 3rd will only talk to the main even if node 2 is closer and providing a better signal.įinally it has no functional QoS. Google WiFi cannot use a mixed wired/wireless setup to increase the performance of wireless nodes. If you want to use a separate router for more features or you are forced to use an ISP supplied one you can't do that without double NAT or a broken mesh. It is the only major mesh system with no functional AP mode so it cannot be used properly with other routers. Even if that level of performance is enough for your connection it still has some other major downsides. It is dual band and WiFi 5 only so it is already on the lower end of the mesh performance range. Long answer: Google WiFi/Nest has never been a good option compared to other systems. Would google nest mesh WiFi still be a legit consideration in 2021? u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
